Who Is Starfish?

The story is told of a man walking along a beach the morning after a storm had passed through. The sand was littered with starfish that had been washed ashore. Down the beach he noticed a young boy picking up starfish and throwing them into the water. As he approached, he asked what the boy was doing. The boy didn’t hesitate as he explained that the sun was coming up and it would kill the starfish if they didn’t get back into the ocean. The man laughed and said, “There are thousands of starfish on miles of beach, you can’t possibly make a difference.” As the boy picked up another starfish and threw it back into the ocean he said, “Well, it sure will make a difference to that one.”

Imagine... if you were in that story. Which person would you be, the boy or the man? Would you be trying to make a difference or would you be laughing?

Nonprofit and cause-driven organizations operate under a type of starfish principle. They know they can’t fix all the problems in the world, but most do their best, with what they have, to help as many people as they can. Unfortunately, far too many starfish are left on the beach.

Charitable organizations have three main objectives: raising money for their causes, telling their stories, and recognizing their donors and sponsors. Fortunately, the most effective method of accomplishing all three objectives is simple—television. Unfortunately, only a small fraction of these organizations can afford it. This leaves the vast majority of worthy causes without access to this powerful medium, therefore leaving more and more starfish on the beach.

Imagine a television network that genuinely embodies that starfish principle. Imagine a network that highlights nonprofit organizations and promotes charitable causes worldwide, a network that embraces charities, nonprofits, and other cause-driven organizations. One that provides them the television outlet they desperately need to tell their stories and recognize their donors and sponsors. Imagine... The Starfish Television Network. Simply put, The Starfish Television Network offers affordable television airtime to nonprofit and charitable organizations so they can tell their stories.

Like the boy throwing the starfish back into the ocean, we know we can't fix all the problems in the world, but The Starfish Television Network WILL make a difference.

Very few of us have the chance to make a real and lasting difference in this world. Those involved in this wonderful endeavor, have that opportunity.
